Hey folks,

time to present some more results. I still got to take some good pictures of the finalised diorama, but with the horrible lighting situation in Mainz I decided it was not worth taking the pics there. Instead, I´ll stage proper photo at home at some point.

First off, though, I´ll present you one of my recent commissions: German Special Forces.
It´s high time I did an update for my KSK set, and a contact from one of the forums I frequent asked if modern German Special Forces with the latest helmets were available somewhere.
Being pretty sure that no one has such a set for sale, I offered him a deal and we agreed on producing a test figure to decide on how to continue with this little project

And here it is:

I´ve also been rather busy painting some more fantasy stuff and 20mm Samurai for Andy at Hagen Miniatures using the new Valljo Game Air colors (highly recommended, more on that later!).

Also, new figures are being prepared, a lot of which have not been presented yet: SADF squad is finished, some Cold War Germans are in the making, more Insurgents are halfway through and I´m still planning to finalise the Modern French set.

To sum it up: I´m silently working on a lot of new stuff as well as doing some commissions, so don´t worry about my lack of updates :)

More Bundeswehr

The Russians are waiting for a resupply of Kalashnikovs, the stocks have run dangerously low. As casting will take 2-3 weeks I´ll have the first batch available just before christmas if everything goes well,  the second batch will follow after that with new weapons.

Random Mix

A quick overview over the results of last weeks work. A very random mix as I just worked on what I liked most.

First: Tanks in various stages of production.  The foremost T55 is the most advanced stage, the others are lagging several steps behind. 

The T55 are pimped in support of my East Germans, now finally getting prepared for some Cold War Hot action.   Again, still WIP and missing the essential highlights, so they´re looking rather dull right now. Add the wrong camera focus and you get a less then impressive pic:

On the sculpting front, I took the time to base the recent productions  - two Bundeswehr Riflemen and a US M249 gunner. 

Also working on a US Team leader to get the second fireteam finished before I send in the next lot.

For those of you who haven´t noticed:  I also put the figures from the last batch (SAS, Insurgents, US & Taliban) online, anybody who wants to grab them can do so - they´re just missing pretty pictures as my time to paint them up is a bit limited and when I do paint my focus is elsewhere at the moment.

That´s it for now... work is holding me back, but unfortunately I can´t eat miniatures ;)

Back at work

Due to being back in the job since the beginning of the week I haven´t been able to get a lot of stuff done. I suspect my rate of production will slow down throughout the next few days.

Meanwhile, there is some stuff I can present, though not much:

After sculpting 7 Russians throughout the last two weeks, I needed a little break and shuffled a German soldier into my schedule. Aiming to produce a few more Riflemen and possibly some more Support-Weapons later on

Of course, I still have to finish all the Russians that were crowd-funded, with 7 ready I now got another 7 to go. So here´s number 8 in a very advanced WIP-stage.

More Figures on the way!

I just dispatched another set of figures to the caster, including East German Motor Rifles, Cold War SAS and a bunch of African Rebels.

To get a good number of African Rebel figures ready for the shipment to the caster, I´ve been working on a pack of Support Weapons for my African Insurgents lately - see below!  Excuse the crappy light...

One RPG, one PKM, two RPK (incl. 1 drum magazine to the right)

Furthermore, I´ve been preparing more Rebels with FALs, which seem to be in common use in the dark continent as well - these are the first two. Unfortunately I´ve exhausted my stock of FALs and have to wait for the next shipment to continue on the set, so these will take a little longer.

More work in progress on another front:

Germans - WIP Mix

A few quick and shoddy pictures on some of the results of my working session today. The pictures are not terribly impressive though.

One of the replacement figures for the NVA. Currently reworking the group and threw some of the poses out and started from scrap. The AK still looks too big, will have to get to work with the knife again later on... 

Preparations for more modern Germans... still awaiting a shipment of G36 to arm them! 

And another rebuilt East-German RPK Gunner. There´s more, but this is just a WIP sneak peek to fill some empty space in the blog, remember ;) 

Preview Session I - Insurgents & Bundeswehr

Hey folks,

a little later than I hoped, but I was finally able to take some good pictures of the figures that will be sent off today if there are no further delays. I had planned to ship them yesterday, but despite working for almost 6 hours nonstop on clean up & finishig on the masters, I was not able to get them all to the desired standard. So I´ve added another shift today to finish the last four Israelis that needed some attention before things get packed.

If the sun keeps shining, I´ll have two Preview sessions today. This is the first, presenting all non-IDF items that will be cast and should be released in April. The second session will focus entirely on my IDF soldiers and should be online this afternoon if the light doesn´t fade and I can take some good photos.

Anyway, here we go:

I´ll release a single pack of Taliban support weapons, the set I did in roughly a day. I hope to add more later on, as you can never have enough variety with Taliban. ;)
I included 2 RPKs in the pack because I think that RPKs are under-represented and I had a very limited choice of poses in my own collection. Maybe someone else feels like I do and wants to pick some up along with other items.

Taliban Support Weapons

Not only can you never have enough variety and manpower with Taliban, the same is of course true with all Insurgents. So, my first set of Generic Insurgents will be available for sale as well. I wil offer three sets of Insurgents suitable for all kind of rebels in colder regions, from Russia to Cold War Europe - maybe not so much for hot regions as they´re all wearing thick clothes. Some might be suitable for Syrian rebels as well, make up your own mind:

And, last but not least for the non-IDF stuff, I´ve done a pack for our German friends. People have been complaining about the lack of good machingunners, neither the plastic kits nor anyone else has a sufficient variety of machingunners. No-one I know of has ever done MG4s - so any Bundeswehr player should watch out for these:

Old News for long-time followers, I know. But seeing what has been accumulated has a Qualtiy of its own, doesn´t it? ;)

Let´s get serious!

Alright, I´m back with the promised pics. Unfortunately, there´s not much new to show yet as I´m busy finishing the next batch of figures as I´m writing this. I´ve two figures done but one still heavily WIP. All three are additions to my Insurgent support weapons and I´d like to present them together. So bear with me, but it will probably be tomorrow before I´m that far.

Meanwhile I have my German Machinegunners ready to go. Two MG3 and two MG4 poses for some diversity in our Bundeswehr ranks.

The grey guy is the latest addition, the two white guys left and right should be recognised by my long-time followers ;)

I´ve also used the good light this morning to take better pictures of my Taliban Support Teams:

Unfortunately, the grey putty does not lend itself well to photography... Looks slightly better than my first attempt, but in reality they are just so much better :(


Anyway, let´s get serious:  These figures will be cast together with my Israelis and will soon be available for purchase. Soon means in a few weeks, once the casting is done, all administrative stuff is handled and all basic work on my website done. I´m taking this step to make casting the figures worthwhile. There are two potential paths to bring the figures to a larger audience without incurring massive losses:
First option is to only cast the figures once enough interest has been gathered. This means gathering a lot of intel and building up and maintaining the right contacts. While it minimises my financial risk, I´m probably losing out on the time aspect. Furthermore, it´s technically not legal for me to sell figures for profit without a proper registration as a businessman. And I´m not releasing all the figures without any compensation for my work. I´m not asking for much, but there´s no free lunch.

Soo, the second option is taking the financial risk and starting up a small business, investing some venture capital to have the initial stock of figures cast. This still requires gathering interest and potential customers - marketing and stuff - but has some positive aspects. Good thing is, it´s perfectly legal, it allows people to just buy stuff without complex transactions like articulating their demand on the right spot like option 1 - and they can buy stuff anytime they want, not just when I´m gathering people who want to support my newest project.  It allows me to build up a proper presence and a reputation in the market. And after crunching the numbers up and down and up again, I´ve come to the conclusion that the financial risk is rather limited for me, as I´m not paying a penny for commissioning the masters, but do them myself. If things fail, I can write off the initial investment, close things down and move on without incurring losses in the thousands.

The implication is: All the figures you´ve seen in the past months will be available through my new webshop very soon. This includes all Israelis, my Generic Insurgents and both of the Teams I posted above. I´m still working on the website and it will take some more time to get it finished. The figures will be sent off to casting within the next week if nothing bad happens.
With some cautiousness, I´d estimate that the operation will be ready to go on-line come Late March / Early April

If you´re already sure to buy stuff, give me a heads-up in the comment-section so I don´t run out of figures on the first day. ;)

German Special Forces on Patrol

Today I´ve been painting a little to catch up on all the minis I wanted to do for some time. Now, I´ve finally found enough motivation to paint some of those. Some of you who´ve been with me for a longer time might remember these figures:

These are the four KSK / Fernspäher figures I sculpted roughly a year ago (or somesuch). They´ve been hanging around since last August but I didn´t get them painted until now.
As you can see, the leaders rifle broke off during transport and was reattached by the caster, unfortunately not in the place where I intended it to be. So I worked around by adding some putty for a rifle sling so the pose could still make some remote sense...

Modern Germans Part 3 - MG3 added

Mini-Update today:

I´ve beefed up the weapon for the MG3-gunner, he is now carrying a proper gun, not just a broomstick ;)  The other guys haven´t seen much visible progress, some pouches added to their backside, and I´m still working on the helmets.

Germans Indeed

Yes, Stargazer was right concerning my last post and the quiz about what I´m doing.
It´s gonna be another batch of germans. Here´s another small update, still WIP but progressed quite a bit from last entry:

Helmets still need some work, and the guys carrying the stick will get his MG3 finalized. The guy on the left needs some more pouches, which you can hardly see right now due to his pose. And the backs need some love as well before it´s going into the final revision and finalising.

Steel Beasts

It´s been another few weeks since my last update, but due to the fact that I was called back to work in september, my spare time shrinked together and was mostly spent on computer wargames, not on the tabeltop affairs.
Nevertheless, I´ve progressed a little and have some new things to show off - I´ve finished the additions to my German Panzergrenadiers on the infantry side, and my order has arrived weeks ago.

Now, there are two complete squads of Panzergrenadier Infantry and the corresponding Marders. I´m not 100% satisfied with the new infantry, as I somehow missed the colorscheme of the older version. Some of that difference in looks is probably due to the base, which is colored in a different way - I´ll have to repaint the old bases to match the new look, which looks more realistic anyway.

Together with the Marder IFVs, I´ve also ordered a T55 for cheap - surprisingly, it´s of excellent quality, even better than the Marders if you ask me:

This has cost me 6€, is fully painted and finely detailed. I´ve picked it up for half the price of an unassembled, unpainted Revell kit and even if I´d have to repaint it, I´d gladly buy more of those. Unfortunately, I´ve put a voluntary purchasing stop for my wargaming stuff for this month into action, after spending quite a bit during August. Maybe the offer is still there in October... on the other hand, I´m pondering if I really need more T55 - I´m in for playing Infantry platoon size actions with tanks being in purely in support for the Infantry  -  not combined arms companies...

Meanwhile, the African forces are growing to the point where I´ll soon have 2 platoons of infantry ready. I´ve sculpted a mortar team, but I´ll present this in a separate sculpting update with my other creations of the last month. For more support options, I´m preparing a DshK-HMG, but I´m still not done with the crew.

German Support Weapons

Today I took some photos of the two German Support Weapons that I finished earlier this week.

I don´t have much to say regarding there, not 100% satisfied with the Grenadier - while the AT-Soldier looks quite good in my opinion. The Panzerfaust looks a little warped on the picture above, which is mostly caused by the perspective of the picture - look at the pics below, its not that bad in reality.

If anyone has any idea what is wrong with the Grenadier, I´d by very happy - I cannot quite pinpoint whats the problem with him. My girlfriend says he looks fine, but I feel like something is wrong with him...

KSK - Part 2

Hey there,

after some obscure silence during the last few weeks, I´m finally in the position to deliver something here again. I´ve been busy sculpting the last two KSK-Soldiers for the German SF-Team that I´ve started a few weeks ago. Now, that they´re finally done, I proudly present the new members of the Team:

In case someone is wondering why the two new guys are using metal weapons - there´s a simple answer.  With permission of Mark from MJ Figures, I´m using his 20mm weapon casts (accessories). Mark has some excellent weapons in stock and with his permision, I am able to save a lot of time by simply purchasing a pack of those and using them. This leaves me more time to focus on the actual figures and provides a uniform look, which is a lot better than fiddling around with weapons for every mini, having varying success and different looks for each weapon I make. I still have to do some finetuning on the weapon (removing the flashes and edges, cutting the weapon down to size to be more in scale with the minis, as some of them are slightly too large, etc.), but I save a lot of effort for a small price.
So, thanks again to Mark for his permission!


Next on top of the list are:
 - German Support Weapons (Panzerfaust 3, already half prepared  + least 1 Grenadier with AG36)
 - African stuff with FALs (not sure if NAM, Mercenaries, or some kind of Rebels?)

I´m not sure which of those I´ll do in immediate succession of the KSK.



Regarding the next campaign update, I still owe you a battlereport... and some news. 

I´m also planning a small step-by-step demonstration of how some of our houserules have reshaped the game, because the experience on the tabletop is quite different than standard FoF, even though the rule changes are small (filling just two pages).

So, a lot in the pipeline - stay tuned!

KSK - Part 1

After finishing the last sculpt, I didn´t stay idle for long and finished my next little project. As I got sick over the weekend and didn´t have much energy to pursue other activities, I made some good progress on the minis while watching series in the background.

I picked one of the assorted figures from my small sculpting list and started on some Bundeswehr Special Forces - Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK). Thanks to the new tools I ordered in early april, you can see some significant improvements in the amount of detail on the figures. I´m amazed by the difference it makes to work with these tools (simple dental tools, btw, obtained from the UK for 6 pounds + postage, so very cheap after all!). Definitely a worthwile investment!

So, the figure to the left is the group leader - unfortunately the weaponry didn´t have any more G36c or G36k in stock, so he had to take the long version to battle...

 

The guy on the right is a Designated Marksman / LMG-Gunner carrying the HK21, which is also known as G8 in the German Army.

Sorry for the blur on the last picture - I think you can still get the most important features, but I finally lost patience after taking ten bad pictures or so in a row.


Next, I will take a small sidetour to Africa and sculpt two minis for the National Army of Malongo, and then I will probably get back to complete the KSK-Team with two more guys.
